When Calgary’s premier hospitality brand decided to expand its footprint in its hometown, it chose a massive, multi-level venue in Southeast Calgary’s South Trail Crossing shopping centre. To bring CRAFT Beer Market Shepard Flats to life, they partnered with BUILD IT By Design, a premier commercial construction firm known for handling complex restaurant fit-outs.

The project demanded a complete structural turnaround, transforming an older establishment into a modern, two-storey premium-casual craft beer hall. The venue officially opened its doors to the public on August 27, 2026, instantly elevating the local dining and social scene.To achieve the architectural vision, the BUILD IT team bypassed simple cosmetic updates and initiated a deep structural overhaul. Crews gutted the existing interior space entirely down to its bare concrete skeleton, creating a clean canvas engineered for high-capacity public use.

One of the most technically demanding phases of the build involved installing the intricate mechanical routing required to feed the venue’s signature 60-tap draft wall. This specialized piping and glycol cooling line infrastructure had to connect the extensive back-of-house keg system to a sprawling, high-traffic central bar on the main floor without disrupting the open-concept layout. Once the heavy industrial infrastructure was secured, the team installed premium finishes, modern seating, and expansive custom millwork, striking a balance between sleek industrial elements and a welcoming dining atmosphere.

The foundational concept of CRAFT Beer Market, which draws heavy inspiration from the progressive micro-brewing culture of Portland, Oregon, focuses on making authentic craft beer approachable and accessible. What makes the Shepard Flats location a standout achievement for both the brand and the builders is its highly adaptive indoor-outdoor layout and impressive community-centric scale. The absolute crown jewel of the construction is a massive, multi-tiered rooftop patio. Explicitly engineered with heavy-duty climate controls to handle Calgary’s unpredictable weather, this space allows guests to enjoy outdoor rooftop dining 365 days a year. By merging a spacious, two-storey interior with a year-round outdoor experience, this commercial construction project successfully delivers a modern 60-tap beer destination that serves as a core social hub for the Southeast Calgary community.
