Hospitality Construction Project

Brand: Banff Transportation Depot
Project location: 100 Gopher Street in Banff, Alberta Canada.

Breathing new life into a historic space requires a delicate balance of preservation and modern innovation. When the time came to renovate the Banff Transportation Depot, BUILD IT Calgary was entrusted with the responsibility of upgrading this vital transit hub while honoring its deep roots in the community. Originally established over a century ago as a central gateway for travelers exploring the Rocky Mountains, the depot features classic architecture and heritage details that tell the story of early Canadian travel. Over the decades, the building has served countless visitors but eventually required significant functional upgrades to meet the intense demands of modern, high volume transit operations. Our goal was to respect the rich history of the original structure while completely revitalizing the interior to serve today’s commuters and tourists efficiently.

To achieve this, our team executed a comprehensive renovation focused on vastly improving passenger flow, accessibility, and overall comfort without compromising the building’s historical integrity. We carefully restored original heritage elements, such as the classic woodwork and architectural masonry, blending them seamlessly with contemporary upgrades. The improvements included installing highly durable flooring designed to withstand heavy foot traffic and harsh mountain weather conditions, alongside upgraded energy efficient lighting to brighten the terminal. We also reconfigured the interior layout to provide spacious, modernized seating areas and clearer wayfinding for travelers waiting for their shuttles. Behind the scenes, the facility benefited from completely updated mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring a safe and climate controlled environment year round. The newly renovated Banff Transportation Depot now stands as a beautiful intersection of past and present, providing an upgraded, welcoming first impression for visitors while proudly preserving a piece of Banff’s storied history.
